Law Day at FAMU College of Law Approaches

Orlando, Fla. – The Fifth District Court of Appeal (DCA) will hold a session at the Florida A&M University (FAMU) College of Law with Honorable Judges C. Alan Lawson (Presiding Judge), Bruce W. Jacobus and Wendy W. Berger hearing oral arguments on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, in the Ceremonial Moot Courtroom. The annual Law Day event marks the seventh consecutive year the Court has visited the FAMU College of Law at 201 Beggs Ave.

Three rounds of oral arguments will be heard with the first scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. After receiving oral arguments from both parties, the Court will entertain questions from the gallery regarding the appellate process, organization of the appellate court, and matters of other general concern. In addition to asking questions of the judges, questions may be directed to the lawyers representing the parties. The Court will not answer questions regarding the substance of the appeal. The question and answer process will be repeated after each argument.  

The arguments will be made based on the following cases:

Russell Harris Calamia v. State of Florida (CASE NO. 12-1710)

Lorene Elbert v. Liberty Title and Escrow Company (Case No. 12-1361)

The Langley Limited Partnership, LLP v. School Board of Lake County, Florida (CASE NO. 12-2044)

Visitors to the Court may enter and leave as they wish. The Court does not require anyone to remain for all arguments or for a complete argument. Bags, purses, backpacks, and similar containers are not allowed in the courtroom. Upon completion of an oral argument the Court will allow visitors to ask questions. No eating, drinking, or chewing gum.
