CUBAN AMERICAN BAR FOUNDATION INC. SCHOLARSHIP

Application Deadline: June 30, 2013   

The following are the CABA Foundation at-large scholarships available to any

currently admitted or enrolled law student:

  1. Osvaldo Soto Scholarship - $2,500
  2. Judge Margarita Esquiroz Scholarship - $2,500
  3. CABA Foundation Scholarship - $2500
  4. CABA Foundation Scholarship - $2500
  5. CABA Foundation Scholarship - $2500

 

Each year, the Cuban American Bar Foundation awards a limited number of scholarships to applicants who meet one or both of the following criteria:

  • 1)  A Cuban or Cuban-American current or admitted law student who has distinguished himself/herself academically and/or in service-oriented activities.
  • 2)  A current or admitted law student who has distinguished himself/herself in research, writing, community service, and/or other activities of importance to the Cuban-American community.

 

Preference may be shown to applicants who demonstrate financial need, but such need is not a prerequisite for a scholarship award.

To be considered for a scholarship, a student must be currently admitted or enrolled and in good academic standing at an accredited law school and submit all of the following application components:

  • An essay of no more than 1,000 words describing how the applicant is qualified pursuant to the eligibility criteria set forth above. (Applicants who wish to detail financial need must do so within this word limit as well.)
  • An updated resume.
  • A copy of his/her most current transcript.

Nadrich & Cohen Emergency Scholarship Fund

Application Deadline:  June 30, 2013

The partners at Nadrich & Cohen, LLP are passionate about promoting our civil justice system.   They  understand firsthand the challenges of meeting the academic and financial demands of attending law school. In that spirit,  the firm announces the Nadrich & Cohen Emergency Scholarship Fund. This award is to be awarded to a deserving law school student for the 2013-2014 academic year. The scholarship consists of $1,500, payable through the law school for the student's behalf.
To apply for the Nadrich & Cohen Scholarship Fund, please submit a 500 to 1000 word essay on the importance of jury trials in our society. Submissions will be judged according to creativity, passion, and knowledge of the subject. The winner will be notified on August 15, 2013.

Console & Hollawell Legal Leaders Scholarship

Application Deadline:  July 15, 2013

The Console & Hollawell $1,000 Legal Leaders Scholarship is available to students who are pursuing a career in law. Applicants must be pursuing a degree in the following areas: pre-law, paralegal studies, or working towards their juris doctorate in any concentration of the law.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be a full-time student attending (or planning to attend on a full-time basis) an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Must demonstrate admission and plans to enroll, or proof of current enrollment in an accredited institution of higher education. If you have not yet received your acceptance into college or law school, you may still apply, but the scholarship will not be released without proof of acceptance and enrollment.
  • Academic achievement as reflected by a minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • The award recipient shall provide the following documentation to obtain the scholarship:
  • A transcript reflecting the student’s current standing with a 3.0 GPA.
  • Proof of admission and enrollment in an accredited institution of higher education.
  • The Console & Hollawell Legal Leaders Scholarship is to be used exclusively for school tuition and related expenses. A check for $1,000 will be made payable to the award recipient’s university or college to cover these expenses

Chris Monts Scholarship

Application Deadline: August 30, 2013

The Office of Development at FAMU College of Law has secured a $2000 scholarship for a current student.

Application criteria:

  • This scholarship is intended for a male student who represents a traditionally underrepresented group or who attend Florida A & M University or another Historically Black College or University as an undergraduate student
  • Applicants should have familial responsibilities
  • Applicants should be academically competitive
  • Applicants must submit an essay of no more 500 words detailing how the applicant’s familial responsibilities have impacted your law school experience.
  • Applications must be submitted to the Office of Financial Aid at the College of Law no later than 5 p.m. on the application deadline date

Gwendolyn Sawyer Cherry, Esquire, Endowed Scholarship

Application Deadline: August 30, 2013

The Office of Development at FAMU College of Law has secured a $1000 scholarship for a current student.

Application criteria:

  • This scholarship is intended for a student who received an undergraduate degree from Florida A & M University
  • Applicants should be academically competitive
  • Applicants must submit an essay of no more 500 words indicating the applicant’s  interest in public service law; the steps have the applicant has taken to cultivate this interest; and the applicants reasons for believing this s area of law is important.
  • Applications must be submitted to the Office of Financial Aid at the College of Law no later than 5 p.m. on the application deadline date

HISPANIC BAR ASSOCIATION OF CENTRAL FLORIDA SCHOLARSHIP

Application Deadline:  August 16, 2013

 The Hispanic Bar Association of Central Florida (HBACF) is proud to announce its scholarship application for the 2013-2014 academic year, which marks the HBACF's Sixth Annual Scholarship Fund Award. The HBACF scholarship is made possible through the generous donations of HBACF members, friends, and sponsors and through the organization's partnership with the Hispanic Heritage Scholarship Fund of Metro Orlando (HHSFMO). The purpose of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to eligible and deserving Hispanic law students in Central Florida.

HBACF will award at least one $5,000 scholarship to an eligible student attending either Barry University School of Law (Barry) or Florida A&M University College of Law (FAMU). The award will be distributed by HBACF in conjunction with the HHSFMO.

Conditions to Acceptance of Scholarship Award

  • Attend the HHSFMO's Annual Gowns and Guayaveras Gala on October, 26 2013;
  • Attend the HBACF's Scholarship Night event, scheduled for September 12, 2013;
  • Attend the HBACF's Installation Dinner in January 2014;
  • Become a member of the HBACF; and
  • Serve as an active member on at least two HBACF committees during the student's 2013-2014 academic year.

 

Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicant must be of Hispanic descent or heritage;
  • Applicant must be a student enrolled at Barry or FAMU for the 2013-2014 academic school year; and
  • Applicant must show academic achievement and excellence.

Latham & Watkins Diversity Scholars Award

Latham & Watkins is once again pleased to announce the Latham Diversity Scholars Program, which will

award a $10,000 non-renewable scholarship to each of six second-year law students.

  • in choosing the Latham Diversity Scholars will include a candidate’s:

  • Life experiences that have shaped values and that provide a unique perspective, including any

Crosner Legal Scholarship

Application Deadline: December 17, 2013

The criminal defense lawyers at Crosner Legal are committed to helping law students become passionate and knowledge attorneys. In order to accomplish this goal, we believe students cannot be concerned with their financial situation, but rather must be dedicated to learning. A focused student can be the difference in passing the Bar and ultimately making a difference in the lives of individuals facing difficult legal issues.

Crosner Legal is enthused to announce the Crosner Legal Scholarship. This scholarship is to be awarded to a young and brilliant law student for the 2014-2015 academic year and consists of a $1,000, payable through the law school for the student’s behalf.

Criteria:

  • Student must be a U.S. citizen
  • Have a 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Must be currently enrolled in the university

Trusp Young Lawyers Scholarship

Application Deadline: December 31, 2013

Moreover, Trusp is sympathetic to the financial constraints posed by so many law students. We want the law students of America to be able to focus all their attention on their academic studies. Trusp is proud to announce the Trusp Young Lawyers Scholarship. This scholarship is to be awarded to a deserving law student for the 2014-2015 academic year and consists of a $1,000, payable through the law school for the student’s behalf.

To apply for the Trusp Legal Young Lawyers Scholarship, please submit an essay no less than 500 words about the importance of employment law in America. We are looking for creativity, background research and most of all, passion. Applications will be accepted July 1,  2013 through  December 31,  2013.
